SCG Muangthong United's head coach praised the work being done by Muangthong’s Academy, including Director, Darren Read and his staff, nurturing the club and Thailand’s future stars.

―― Can you briefly tell us about your career?

I played soccer for a long time in Brazil and Europe. I was already studying and preparing to be a coach when I was a player. I stopped playing in 2000 and started my coaching career after then. I started with Fluminense FC as youth academy coach, then in 2004 I was the head coach of the first team there.2006~2008 I coached Al Whada Club in the United Arab Emirates. 2008~2012 I coached in South Korea, Gyeongnan FC and National Team assistant coach.2013~2014 I coached in Qatar, Al Shahania Sc. I came to Thailand in May 2014 and I started coaching in Buriram united 2014-2016. Then made a move to Chiang rai FC 2017~2018. Then had experienced coaching U19/U23 Thailand national team in 2018~2019 for 7 months. Now currently I'm at SCG Muangthong United since 2019. So farin thailand I am the most successful coach in league history with14 titles in total in 6 years and I am very proud of my work in the past. .

―― What brought you to this club?

SCG Muangthong United is a great club and had always been my desire to work here, and I wanted this challenge in my career.

―― What makes this club and the team special?

Its history and tradition. Also our location in Bangkok is great and we have passionate and vibrant fans. The Atmosphere in the stadium on game day is very special.

―― How is the youth system(U18) in the club?

SCG Muangthong United's youth academy is strong. This comes from well organized and structured work philosophy. We are one of the best club that produce young talents in Thailand.

―― Are there particular methods to the youth(U18) team in the club? What’s important for these players your age? Also What would be the criteria to play in the top team?

SCG Muangthong already has a well organized academy. We have an excellent technical coordinator in the youth academy who has been in the club for a long time and has good coaches who follow the philosophy of the academy. I don't believe in youth academies that only follow the model of the first team, because I think during the academy they should learn everything they can, like different systems and philosophies. More they learn the more prepared they be to play in the first team. I also participate in the youth development and younger academy players. I see their games and make comments about what I think about a particular player or position. When I like the player, then I can train with me and see his evolution more closely.

―― Please name us future stars from the youth(U18) and what kind of player they are.

I don't like to name the star of the future because we put a lot of pressure on the young player. But I like to work with young players. Today the top team has more than 50% of young players who came from the academy. This shows in SCG Muangthong United likes and values their young talents. Players that has brought up from academy to our top team, like korrawit Tasa(Thailand U16, U23), Wattanakorn Sawatlakhorn, Poramet Arjvirai (Thailand U23), Sundy Wongderree, Patcharapol Intanee (Thailand National team) shows that our Academy System has been very successful.

―― Please share us current goal of the club and message to youth(u18) players!

The objective is always to be a champion, so to work with me they also have to think like this. We always have to think big to work and always play at a high level. We require them to always be prepared and dedicate themselves to the maximum training because I will always be following them. Players know about this and we already see this year some of young players who are playing in the top team.
