SCG Muangthong United have completed the signings of three new young talents to add to their squad. Chatmongkol Thongkiri joins the club on loan from Port FC, while Picha Autra and Phumin Kaewta return to the club from Samut Prakan City.
Kirin Head Coach Alexandre Gama expressed his satisfaction with the new players and provided hints about how they will fit into the team. As a coach known both for his in-game tactical versatility and his ability to develop young players, these three new signings seem to fit his approach very well.
The 23-year-old midfielder, Chatmongkol Thongkiri, is a long-time favorite of Coach Gama, who first selected him for the Thailand U23 squad last season when he was playing for Chainat Hornbill FC. “I like the style of how he plays, the aggressive style,” Gama noted. “In Thailand, it is difficult to find a midfielder who has the power to defend and create options [going forward].”
Coach Gama also reserved high praise for his potential, comparing him to the likes of Thitipan Puangchan and Phitiwat Sukjitthamakul, who Gama helped develop into Thai National Team stars during his time with Chiangrai United. The Brazilian coach hopes he can develop the Kirin’s new signing in a similar way.
Meanwhile, Picha Autra is a year older, and refined his game during an impressive breakout campaign with Samut Prakan City FC last season. Capable down the left as a winger or wing-back, Picha is also able to play in various other attacking roles. His versatility was a major asset to his club last season, and should greatly benefit the Kirin for the upcoming campaign.
“He can play on the [wing], but he can also play between the lines very well,” Coach Gama observes. “He knows the moment to go inside the box and score,” he added, “some midfielders and wingers don’t know this moment, but Picha knows.”
The Kirin’s third arrival, Phumin Kaewta, is a similarly versatile attacker, but also brings a unique skillset which Coach Gama is eager to utilize.
“His strength is in one-on-one situations,” Gama explained. “We have many players with very good talent but we don’t have this kind of player in my squad. When I had the opportunity, I was happy to bring him because he can give me new options.”
Gama’s praise of these new Kirin’s potential should spark confidence in the squad going forward. Developing the club’s young talents will be an important priority during the upcoming season, and the coach’s eagerness to work with these players will be crucial in seeing Muangthong United’s project through.
