SCG Muangthong United are back in winning form with a 2-0 victory over Sukhothai FC at the SCG Stadium, Wednesday May 29th, 2019.
Playing without centre back Adisorn Pomrak, on a ban after collecting 4 yellow cards, Coach Yoon added Saringkan to the back line, along with Oh Ban Suk, Wattana, and Suphanan. Once again Sarach Yooyen anchored the midfield along with Lee Ho, Suporn, and Heberty, while Teerasil and Korawich took on forward roles.
The game began with both teams cautious, focusing more on possession and not risking a move towards goal, with the teams moving as a unit to stay behind the ball. As the game progressed, however, Muangthong United were able to press into the final third, with key short passes and runs.
As a result the Kirin were to have the lion's share of shots on target, beginning with an attempt by youngster Korawich Tassa into the arms of the Sukhothai keeper early on in the half.
Minutes late Korawich ran along the edge of the 18 year box and dropped a pass for Heberty, but his shot was also saved. Then Heberty was instrumental a short while later setting up Suphanan, and his hard shot was on target but tipped wide.
Approaching halftime Muanghtong United took the lead when Teerasil Dangda finally connected on Suphorn's cross into the box, beating the defender to the ball for a header tucked just inside the post.
The second half saw Sukhothai FC with better possession, but the Firebats were misfiring, and when good chances presented themselves the forwards were not able to capitalize.
After a flurry of pressure, however, Muangthong United were able to go ahead 2-0. Lee Ho intercepted the ball at the halfway line and sent looping pass into the box. Heberty jumped on the chance, taking the ball closer to the goal and then hammering home with a stunning shot.
Dang Van Lam meanwhile earned the clean sheet with some key stops and by taking control of the penalty box. He was often off his line to pull down crosses. Late in the second half he had to be fast to scoop up the ball on a low cross after defender Wattana Playnum had tried to clear.
The league will now have a break in games for the King's Cup tournament involving the Thai national team, and several Kirin players. The next league match is June 16th away to Chonburi, and then the first leg of the sesason conludes on June 22 at the SCG Stadium against Trat FC.
