SCG Muangthong United played to a 1-0 away match victory over Samut Sakhon F.C. in the Kirin's first match of the 2019 Leo Pre-Season Cup.
With key players Teerasil Dangda, Adisak Kraison, and Adison Pomrak missing due to the the Asian Championships in the UAE, several second string players received the nod to start. As well, this was the first opportunity for new signing Aung Thu in a competitive fixture.
SCG Muangthong United dominated the match with the control of possession and shots. The lone goal came early one when Weerawut Kayam took a long ball and lobbed it over the keeper.
Said Coach Pairot, "I am happy with the result but the we are not at 100% fitness yet, there is still work to do."
The Kirin will next play Hanoi F.C. on Sunday January 20th, a 6PM kickoff at the SCG Stadium. This is the first year for the Leo Pre-Season Cup to incorporate teams.
The details of the competition were announced tat the Boon Rawd auditorium the afternoon of January 8th. The number of teams has increased this season, and will feature 12 Thailand teams and 4 ASEAN clubs. The Thai teams are SCG Muangthong United, BG Pathum United, Singha Chiang Rai United, Port F.C., Rayong F.C., PT Prachuap, Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda F.C., Chiang Mai F.C, Khon Kaen F.C., Nong Bua Phichit F.C., Samut Sakhon F.C, Udon Thani F.C., as well as 4 ASEAN teams: Hanoi F.C., Tampines Rover, Laos Toyota F.c, and Phnom Penh Crown F.C.
