SCG Muangthong United gain a much needed win after 5 straight games without a victory in league and FA Cup action.
The man of the match was Heberty Fernandes after scoring twice, a header at the far post off a corner, and then a penalty goal in the final minute of play. Kirin fans had to wait late into the second half for the goals, but will be relieved their team has begun winning again.
Despite having just come off a gruelling 120 minute match in the FA Cup, SCG Muangthong United showed the better form, although Navy FC played hard and were seeking three points and a chance to move out of relegation. Navy FC had several golden chances to score, and saw a couple of empty net opportunities squandered.
A goal in the first half for Navy FC was called back as being offside, and the same happened to the Kirin in the second half.
Heberty's two goals were complimented by some individual defensive heroics. SCG Muangthong United keeper Kampon Pathomattakul came up with two super saves to keep his clean sheet. As well, defender Naoaki Aoyama was steller in tracking Navy FC's speedy forward Amadou Ouattara.
With the win SCG Muangthong United can begin preparing in confidence for their next Thai League fixture, another away match at Suphanburi F.C. on Sunday August 5th.
