SHARK ATTACK!! Difficult challenge and 2018 League Cup campaign is over

SCG Muangthong United bow out of the 2018 Toyota League Cup after suffering a 5-1 away match defeat in Chonburi in the round of 16. The lone Kirin goal came from Celio Santos ('29) playing his first match after injury recovery.

Also playing in his first match after injury was Adisak Kraisorn, while Coach Radovan Curcic rested Naoaki Aoyama and Jaja Coelho. After completing a punishing schedule of six games over three weeks the players lacked the usual form that had the team on an eight game winning streak. Worrying will be the condition of Chenrop Samphaodi who sustained another injury and had to be substituted out in the second half. Youngsters Peerapong Panyanumaporn and Sanukran Tinjon also featured in tonight's match for the Kirin.

Chonburi F.C.'s attack was led by Matheus Leandro Alves who scored three goals, and continued to be a nuisance for Kirin defenders. The Brazilian attacker is on loan to Chonburi from Suwon F.C. in the K-League. As well, Chonburi's keeper Tanachai Noorach made several key stops, and was also assisted by the crossbar on what looked to be the Kirin's second goal mid way through the second half. Heberty was also denied a goal early in the first half when he was called offside, a decision not supported by televised replay, however there was no video assistant referee system at this match.

SCG Muangthong United cannot afford to think about this loss as they must prepare for yet another match in just a few days time. The Kirin will play Nakhonratchasima F.C. on Sunday July 15th, a 6PM kickoff at the SCG Stadium. Ticket details and more at the Kirin's English web site:
