WINNING OUR HEARTS: Kirin show good form as Radovan Curcic has his first win

Charyl Chappuis was the hero with two goals, but the Kirin showed good organization and team work in a 2-0 home victory over Chainat F.C.

Coach Radovan Curcic set up the Kirin to defend hard knowing the scoring potential of Chainat. The backline consisted of Adison Pomrak and Naoaki Aoyama in the centre roles, while Peerapat and Wattana were the outer backs. Both Wattana and Peerapat would press forward, but only cautiously.

The midfield saw youngsters Sorawit and and Sanukran, along with Heberty Fernandes, Charyl Chappuis, and team captain Sarach Yooyen. Tristan Do floated as a right hand forward, frequently switching off with Heberty in this role.

Despite an early threat from Chainat, with Florent Sinama lobbing the ball to Diouf Henry inside the box, the first half saw SCG Muangthong United the better team, keeping the ball and threatening goal several times.

The Kirin plan of attack was to send the ball from deep in their half long to the right for either Tristan Do or Heberty Fernandes. At other times the Kirin worked the ball up the pitch through the midfielders.

The long ball to the right resulted in an early shot from Tristan Do towards the low post, but it was easily smothered by Teerat, Chainat's keeper. A similar ball threaded through by Heberty saw Tristan leaping over the sliding keeper, but unable to turn back on the ball for a quick shot.

With the Kirin dominating the chances and applying the pressure, the opening goal was somewhat slow in coming. Tristan Do was to have another attempt at goal after a good run forward from Adison, but it was the charismatic Charyl Chappuis who jumped on a loose ball to hit the top corner with a left footed strike just before the halftime whistle.

Heading into the second half Chainat came out strong, showing the reason why the club has won four out of their last five games. Early on a foot race between A.Ratchanant and Charyl towards goal led to a bad foul on the Kirin keeper, Prasit. Fortunately he was able to continue the match after a long break while the medics took to the pitch.

Chainat continued to press, with a series of corner kicks and free kicks into the box. SCG Muangthong United were prepared, however, and the balls were defended clear. The tight marking frustrated Chainat's attack, who at one point passed the ball out of bounds.

Then at the 65th minute Charyl struck for his second goal and put an end to any comeback. Sarach Yooyen, who himself had a huge opportunity a few minutes before, provided a well placed cross while on full sprint. Charyl was closely marked but able to get his foot on the ball to finish for the goal.

Good news for fans came as Jaja Coelho joined the game shortly after, and he was instrumental in unleashing Heberty, and later Tristan, for excellent goal opportunities, which showed SCG Muangthong United clearly in control of the match.

Head Coach Radovan Curcic's game plan paid off, and the win has inspired confidence. Said Charyl after the match, "We played much better tonight. We have a new coach, and he seems to know what to do for us."

Said Coach Radovan, "The players have the quality, and the training we do is at a higher level. This is only the first step."

SCG Muangthong United's next match is Sunday May 20th, with Sukhothai F.C. visiting the SCG Stadium Tickets are available at
