SCG Muangthong United bring home a point after drawing 1-1 with Chonburi F.C. in matchday 11 of the Thai League One 2018 season.
Once again Kirin's interim coach was restricted in choices for the starting eleven, with youngsters filling the spots from the plethora of inured regular starters. Patacharapol, at 19 years old, started in the centre back along side Aoyama, with Peerapat and Tristan Do in their regular wing back roles. Suporn alternated with Tristan Do in overlapping runs from the back line. Thossawat was added to the midfield along with the return of Charyl, and of course team captain Sarach Yooyen. Heberty played his usual attacking midfielder role, wtih another youngster, Sorawit, playing up top. Prasit Phadungchock once again was given the start in goal.
Both teams were to have chances early on. Chonburi F.C. played a fast-break attacking match. Thailand national team forward Kroekrit Thaweekarn had two shots towards goal, both wide, but was an early indication of intent to score, supported with fast pace down the right from Brazilian Ciro Alves.
Though Chonburi F.C. had the better share of possession through the first 30 minutes, a good chance for Muangthong United came on a Kirin corner, taken by Heberty, which was given a glancing header towards the goal by Naoaki Aoyama that was only just wide of target.
Another chance emerged at '31 when Tristan Do's low cross found Sorawit open at the penalty spot, but his one time stab at the ball lacked power and was easily handled by the Chonburi keeper.
It was Tristan Do, however, who opened the scoring just before half time. A poor clearance from the defence allowed Heberty Fernandes to charge at the box with the ball. Pulling two players towards him, Heberty slid a short pass out to the right for Tristan Do, who had time on the ball to place the shot.
It was Tristan Do's third goal in as many games, and his fifth of the season.
For the first time this season the video assistant referee came in to play allowing for Chonburi F.C. to equalize early into the second half. A shot from Saharat Sontisawat was to be knocked clear by Prakrit but it was off the post and rolled across the open goal for the easy score for 20 year old U23 national player Worachit Danitsribampen. Initially the goal was called back as offside, but the VAR showed Worachit was even with the back line when the shot was taken.
SCG Muangthong United were to have several chances to equalize as the half progressed. A blistering drive from Sarach was right on target but knocked back out by the keeper, and then Heberty was a step behind the defender to be able to gather in the rebound. Then at '72 Heberty's shot from the edge of the box had the keeper beaten but was off the post and out.
With 20 minutes remaining one youngster was swapped for another as Suksan Mungpao had his Kirin debut, coming in for Sorawit. A few moments later Siroch entered the game. The added muscle and speed in the forward line was not enough to produce the go ahead goal.
SCG Muangthong United will have just a few days rest as a midweek game awaits. The Kirin are at home this Wednesday, April 25th, to host Police Tero F.C. in matchday 12 of the 2018 Thai League One season.
