TOP CLASS FOOTBALL: MTUTD impress with speed and power

Coach Totchtawan Sripan was forced into a small change to the starting line up that’s seen the team win 9 in a row. Adisak Krisorn was available only as a sub, and Michael N’dri got the start alongside Cleiton Silva. Adisak took a tough knock in Wednesday’s League Cup match, and had also played with the Thai National team the Sunday previous.

Chainat looked for the early goal when Alex Wesley had the first shot of the match less than 30 seconds in, though wide, as it was taken from 30 yards out. He took another from distance at 8 mins, but well over the bar and never a threat. Yet the shots seemed to indicate the Chainat game plan to hammer strikes in towards the goal, perhaps looking for the ball to come back out for a chance.

Teerasil Dangda opened the scoring at just four minutes in. Taking the pass across from Chanathip, Teerasil moved the ball to his left foot and placed the shot perfectly into the top corner from the edge of the box. The goal comes just days after Teerasil became a father with the birth of his son.

Michael N’dri’s form seemed to benefit from his second start, and a clever little backwards tap to Chanathip allowed Messi-J in close, but his hard shot was at the keeper who tipped it over the bar. (20 mins)

N’dri’s skill was evident a few minutes later when he placed himself near the penalty spot and was ready to head in the cross, his second goal for SCG Muangthong United.

The Michael N’dri and Chanathip combination almost resulted in what would have been a beauty of a goal after a series of quick and short give-and-go moves in the tiki-taka style resulted in N’dri with a good opportunity. His shot, however, was just wide of the open side.

The second half saw Chainat give a renewed effort with close pressing. Chainat were able to pressure and keep a better share of possession. The match became more physical, and the first yellow appeared against the Chainat defender Jo Tae Keun.

By the 64th minute Naoaki Aoyama, who had been playing injured, went down and required the stretcher. Suphan was subbed in to take his spot in central defence.

Datsakorn Thonglao came into the match at the 81st minute for the hard working Chanathip. Sarach Yooyen then was subbed off at THE 88th minute for Seksit. Then an injury time collision left Tristan Do requiring the stretcher.

With a heavy slate of games over the next two months, injuries are going to test the depth of the SCG Muangthong United line up.

The Kirin will be in action again in just a few days when they travel to Ayutthaya to face the Wiarriors, June 15th in an FA Cup match.
