THAILAND CHAMPIONS - KING'S CUP 2016

Thailand have captured the top prize in the 44th annual King's Cup Competition with a 2-0 win over Jordan.

Kroekrit Thaweekarn scored two goals, with assists from Teerasil Dangda and Adisak Krisorn to help earn the win. SCG Muangthong's keeper Kawin Thamasatchanan earned the shut out.

The King’s Cup is an international invitational tournament created by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). The King’s Cup is played every year. This year is the 44th edition of the cup, and was played June 3-4-5 at the Rajamangala Stadium.

Thailand first defeated Syria in a penalty shot shootout 2 days prior, after the match had finished with a 2-2 draw. The other team in the King's Cup was the United Arab Emirates.

The win will bring confidence to Thailand as the defeat of Jordan, ranked 80th in the world by FIFA, precedes the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification matches set to begin in September. Thailand is ranked 117th in the world (as of June 2nd, 2016).

Thailand have been drawn into Group B of the third round of qualifiers, and will face home-away matches with Australia, Japan, Iraq, and Saudi, all of them teams ranked higher.
