SCG Muangthong United made it two in a row during the pre-season friendlies with a comfortable 1-0 win over Army F.C.
The lone goal came from striker Cleiton Silva who headed in a very nicely placed cross from defender Thitipan Puangjan.
Coach Dragan Taljic has plenty to smile about as his squad played quality football for 90 minutes. Most of the regular first team received some valuable game time. The defensive line was impressive, with the new signing Aoyama from Japan partnered with the returning Kim Dong Jin of Korea. Even after the pair were subbed off and some of the second string players were given a chance, Army managed only one shot on target the entire match. Muangthong United were also bolstered with the presence of Jermaine Pennant. The former Arsenal and Stoke City regular played a midfield position along with Muangthong's captain Datsakorn Thonglo. Jermaine Pennant is training with the squad to keep up his own fitness and to bring in his wealth of experience at the top level of English football.
SCG Muangthong looked impressive, and for a good part of the match it was a game of keep-away, with the Army players desperately trying to gain a moment or two of possession. "These last two games we've played very good," said Cleiton Silva after the match. "We have some new tactics that are working very well for us."
Muangthong will have a few more friendly matches before the season opener, scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 14/15 in Nakon Ratchasima against the Swatcats. The season's home opener will be against champions Buriram, through the date of this match has not yet been announced.
