Bangkok Glass - Fight Like Champs!!

Match Report Bangkok Glass vs. Muangthong United, Leo Stadium, 7 PM Kickoff. Thaicom FA Cup. Attendance: 6930

Muangthong United's FA Cup hopes came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Bangkok Glass at the Leo stadium.

United striker Jay Bothroyd, and central defender Aritz Borda were forced to sit out the match with injuries, however both Kim Dong Jin and Erik Paartalu were able to start. At the same time, Milan Bubalo and Mario Gjurovski were handed another start.

The first 20 minutes of the match were largely Bangkok Glass, having the first strike at net 3 minutes in, followed by some persistent pressure, including a strike that came back out off the crossbar. United players seemed at times uncomfortable on the artificial turf, with several slips and mis-timings, and passes that were too long or fast to be retrieved. It didn't help that rain began to fall about 25 minutes in.

Lazarus Kaimbi, who scored last time against United, hit one over the bar from very close in. Then at the 24th minute Kaimbi was able to connect for Bangkok Glass's first goal, beating Kawin on the near side.

United's first strike on net was at 10 minutes in. After Glass scored, however, United were able to gain a better share of ball possession. Nevertheless, Glass were able to counter-attack, and their second goal came after MIlan Bubalo was forced to bring down an attacker in the box and a penalty was awarded.

Muangthong did not let up their effort however, and just before half time there was a close chance with a cross in that was headed just over the bar.

The rain continued to fall into the second half, as Cleiton Silva came off the bench for Erik Paartalu. United, for the first 10 minutes, held better control of the ball and applied more pressure, including a header off the crossbar. The slippery field conditions led to a clumsy challenge on Kim Dong Jin and a red card to Bangkok Glass at the 60th minute, leaving them with 10 men and 30 minutes to play. United piled on the pressure nd threatened to equalize, however time was to run out.

United's next match is a Thai Premier League fixture on Saturday in Chaing Rai. This will be United's 5th game in about a two week time frame and and a win is important to keep alive their title chase.
