Muangthong United's win streak comes to an end with a 5-2 loss at home to Suphanburi F.C. MTUTD remain top of the table, now tied with BEC TERO.
At first MTUTD seemed on their way to a sixth straight victory when at the 20th minute DATSAKORN THONGLAO drove the ball in with a fine shot from 30 yards out. However a few moments later Suphanburi were able to equalize with the help of a mis-cue between the central defenders and keeper KAWIN THAMSATCHANAN. This was followed at the 42nd minute mark with a go ahead goal from Suphanburi on a strike that took a bounce and eluded the MTUTD keeper.
A series of yellow cards were issued mainly to Suphanburi players, setting up several set-piece opportunities. Shortly after Suphanburi's third goal, a few minutes into the second half, Coach Pon subbed in TEERASIL DANGDA. The game seemed to be turning in MTUTD's favour when a hand ball in the box produced a penalty opportunity. MARIO DJUROVSKI's strike, however, was saved by the Suphanburi keeper.
MTUTD were able to apply pressure and created several scoring chances which were saved again-and-again by the Suphanburi keeper. Then, the visitors were able to secure another goal at the 75th minute. MTUTD countered just 5 minutes later when TEERASIL DANGDA tipped in a free kick attempt that was aimed at goal. A red card issued to Suphanburi a few minutes later gave hope to the almost 11,000 fans that had sold out the SCG Stadium.
Unfortunately for the MTUTD fans a fifth goal sealed the game for Suphanburi. MTUTD will be looking to learn from this, and with 27 more games to go, the season is far from over. The next match is Saturday May 10 against arch-rivals Buriram United, at the I-Mobile stadium in Buriram.
