A penalty at 24 minutes into the first half gave MTUTD a 1-0 lead. Muangthong dominated most of the game, controlling the ball through the midfield, with a solid performance from Kim Dong Jin on defense, limiting Police's shots. Milan Bubalo worked hard, driving forward and also chasing back to make key tackles. Despite this, a failure of Muangthong's defense to clear the ball allowed Police to strike a fine equalizer at about the 60th minute mark. Later in the game Police almost went ahead 2-1, but Muangthong's keeper Kawin flew to his right and tipped the ball onto the crossbar before it sailed wide for a corner kick.
Coach Scott Cooper substituted in Jay Bo with about 20 minutes to go, hoping to provide, perhaps, a finishing touch. The missing element from the game was finding the back of the net. The few times Muangthong had a clear chance at goal they either struck the ball wide, or the cross was too far gone, or the keeper stepped out to make a block. Aside Muangthong's set plays failed to strike at the net, and corner kicks in particular were poorly placed - trying to find the head of Eric Paartalu near the back post, but often too deep.
