KIRIN PRIDE!! SCG Muangthong United seize the 2017 League Cup trophy
SCG Muangthong United win the 2017 Toyota League Cup with a 2-0 victory over Chiang Rai United at the Supachalasai Stadium in downtown Bangkok.
The Kirin's first goal came from Peerapat Notchaiya at the 35th minute, grabbing the rebound off the keeper's save and converting from a high angle. The goal was set up from Heberty's stunning free kick that forced Chatchai Budprom into a diffucult save, only to have Peerapat close down on the loose ball to score.
Teerasil Dangda was to score the second goal at the 60th minute, slipping between defenders to take Theerarthon Bunmathan's perfect through pass alone on the goal, knocking it past the keeper at close range.
Although Chiang Rai United dominated at times, the Kirn's keeper Kawin Thamsatchanan was never forced into a difficult save. At times the Muangthong United defenders were strong, in particular a perfectly timed sliding tackle by centre back Nukoolkit Krutyai denied Chiang Rai's top goal scoring machine, Rafael Coelho.
The match was a scrappy affair, with several yellow cards handed out and tempers at times flared. Chiang Rai's Everton Gonçalves Saturnino was shown the red after he brought down Charyl Chappuis on a poorly timed tackle.
SCG Muangthong United will now prepare for the 2018 season which launches in February 2018. Several pre-season matches are planned, as well as tours within the region.
