SCG Muangthong United soundly defeat rivals Bangkok United 4-0 at the SCG Stadium, helped by 3 goals from Heberty Fernandes, and one from Teerasil Dangda.
The victory was a true team effort, with the Kirin defenders and midfielders constantly appling close pressure, and forcing errors and turn overs from Bangkok United. The league's leading goal scorer, Dragan Boskovic, was almost invisible on the pitch, being out manuevered time and again by the SCG Muangthong United powerful centre back duo, Naoaki Aoyama and Celio Santos.
Bangkok United were unable to dispossess the Kirin players of the ball for most of the match. Theerathon on several occasions weaved his way around 2-3 defenders and kept hold of the ball under pressure. Likewise, Charyl Chappuis skillfully distributed the ball through the midfield, and came close to scoring on two occasions.
The first goal came when the Bangkok United midfield were caught napping as a free kick was taken quickly, sending Peerapat down the left and towards goal. His low hard cross went through a crowd to find Teerasil waiting on the other side to tap it in.
Shortly into the 2nd half, Heberty, who had already threatened goal twice with shots just wide, made it 2-0 for the Kirin, taking Teerasil's forward pass and finding the target with
Bangkok United seemed to step up the pace soon after, but were not able to ever get a god chance at goal. A series of corner kicks were cleared. Mario Gjurovski was to have a good chance with a shot from the edge of the box, but the effort was weldiskl wide of target.
Coach Tochtawan Sripan looked to take on a defensive stance when Leandro Assumpcao was subbed out for defender Adison Promrak.
Yet Bangkok United's defensive form fell apart in the reminaing 10 minutes. Hebertry scored his second goal with an excellent left footed strike as he stormed his way towards goal. He then added his 3rd, when he was left unmarked near the far post, and available for the easy header goal.
With this victory the Kirin are now 6 points up on Bangkok United, but still 6 points back from league leading Buriram United who squeaked out a 1-0 win over Bangkok Glass.
The Kirin will have just 2 days rest and then travel to play Navy F.C., Saturday September 23rd.
