ONE STEP CLOSER: MTUTD win opens up 3 point lead

SCG Muangthong United took an important step closer to championship with a 4-1 home match win over Pattaya NNK United. The win is important as the Kirin open up a 3 point lead at the top of the table after Bangkok United were held to a 1-1 draw at Nakhon Ratchasima F.C.

The outcome was never really in doubt for Muangthong United as the Kirin dominated play, opening up an early lead when Xisco Jiminez scored his third goal at the 11th minute. The depth of the lineup was shown as goals the four goals all came from different sources. Cleiton Silva headed in his 23rd goal of the season to cement his place as the league's top goal scorer. Theerathon scored just before half time, and Teerasil added a clever chip into the net at the 56th minute.

For Pattaya NNK United Franciso scored early in the second half.

The Toyota Thai League games will be on hold for three weeks as the national team prepare for their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification matches. SCG Muangthong United make up the core of the national team, with 10 players called up.

League matches will resume for SCG Muangthong United on Sunday Sept. 11th, with a visit to sixth place Sukhothai F.C.
