Muangthong United show depth and character in pre-season friendly

Special Pre-season friendly, Muangthong United vs. Busan IPark, of Korea's K-League

Despite being down key players called up for the Thai National team in preparation for the King's Cup, Muangthong United looked the better of the two teams. The first half saw Muangthong United have better possession of the ball, and most of the play towards the Busan IPark end of the pitch.

Muangthong's backline was formidable, with newly signed Aoyama taking up a centre back role, and Kin Dong-Jin playing as a holding midfielder. Together they helped to make it impossible for Busan's attackers to get anywhere near the net.

The only goal of the first half came at the 14th minute, when Busan IPark's free kick from the midfield takes a deflection and catches the United keeper going the wrong way.

Head Coach Dragan Talajic had few choices up front, and decided to rest key forward Mario Gjuorovski, though Cleiton Silva was given the start and of course team captain Datskorn, who took up the striker role. Much of the attack were long balls from the back trying to find Cleiton Silva, though Datsakon came close on a free kick chance near the close of the first half.

Muangthong did not make any changes and the same squad started the second half, though Busan IPark brought a team of 30 players to this friendly, allowing for plenty of substitutions.

Both teams had moments of pressure in the sceond half, with Busan pressuring the ball and Muangthong, though holding possession, often found it hard to move the ball forward. A chance for Cleiton came at the 70th minute chipped forward finds him one on one, but his attempt to lob the ball over the charging keeper is just over the net.

Just before the final whistle Muangthong came close as Japanese signing Aoyama saw his header came back out to him, but his strike went over the bar.

Missing from the Muangthong were six players preparing with the Thai National team for the King's Cup: Keeper Kawin, Sarach Yuyen, Thitipan, Kasidesch, Patipan, and Artit.
