Suphanburi - 0, Muangthong United - 0
Aug. 16, 2014
Muangthong gain another point as they play to stay with league leader Buriram and 2nd place Chonburi. United, already missing Jay Bothroyd due to injury, were further without regular starters Kim Dong Jin and Mario Gjurovski. For the first time Aritz Borda and Erik Paartalu anchored the back line.
As the score suggests, the game was even, though Suphanburi had the greater share of the ball overall. Despite that, United had several good attempts at goal, and came very close during the second half, only Milan Bubalo was in an offside position in what would have been a for-sure goal situation. United's defense was solid, and when a shot did make it through Kawin confidently dealt with it.
United's captain Dataskorn led most of the attack, with several strikes from distance, or feeding the ball forward. Both Wuttichai and Bubalo gave the Suphanburi defense cause for concern with their runs through the middle, or down the right side. The final pass, or goal scoring touch, however, was missing from the attack.
Muangthong now sit with 58 points and have a great opportunity to capture the championship in the next two weeks. They will play Buriram Wednesday, at home, and the following Saturday travel to Chonburi. With players returning from injury, and undefeated in the last 4 premier league games, Muangthong have momentum on their side.
